Hundreds of families, athletes, and community members gathered at Morelos Park this weekend for the “Move Forward Without Alcohol” 5K race, an event designed to champion healthy living and educate the public on the dangers of alcohol consumption.

Organized by the Tijuana government in partnership with the Municipal Institute Against Addictions (IMCAD), the race served as a vibrant, community-focused commemoration of World Alcohol-Free Day. According to Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado, Secretary of Humanistic Development, the event saw nearly 500 participants strengthening both their physical activity and family bonds, which is a key priority for Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz.

Florina Righetti Rojo, Director of IMCAD, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative as it creates healthy environments, strengthens protective factors in the community, and provides accessible, alcohol-free recreational spaces for everyone.

The race fostered an atmosphere of well-being and social responsibility, uniting runners from across the city. The competition was spirited, with top honors going to the following athletes:

Women’s Category:

  • 1st Place: Vianey Santa Clara
  • 2nd Place: Guadalupe Cano
  • 3rd Place: Claudia Castillo

Men’s Category:

  • 1st Place: Daniel Valdez
  • 2nd Place: Rolando Ríos
  • 3rd Place: Yeiko Salgado

Officers from the Tijuana Youth Police participated in the race alongside their own families, modeling positive behavior for the city’s younger generation.

The event was also attended by Congressman Ramón Vázquez Valadez and María Luisa Munguía, Acting Head of the Directorate for Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation.

Through this successful community gathering, the Tijuana government reaffirms its commitment to fostering a stronger social fabric, promoting healthy lifestyles, and ensuring citizens have access to safe public spaces free from addiction.
