TIJUANA. Tijuana has beat out other cities in Mexico for the most betting houses or casinos, coming in with a grand total of 44. To add to that, Baja California is the state with the largest concentration of betting houses, coming in at nineteen in total.

This title has nothing to do with the former glory of the Casino Aguacaliente, which was a world renowned attraction during the thirties, but rather in relation the current trend of people visiting betting houses or casinos as a favorite pass-time.

Just in the span of one year, Tijuana has added five casinos to its offerings. In the city, visitors and residents alike enjoy playing with luck on a daily basis. We have not yet reached the calibre of casinos to North of the border, which usually offer more than just slots and tables, and include buffets, shopping centers.

Baja California has luck on its side

Generally, Baja California has topped the list of states with the most amount of casinos. In total, the region has forty-four betting houses, nineteen of which are in Tijuana, and eleven in Mexicali. The runners-up are Nuevo Leon with 36, Mexico City with 36, Sonora with 27, Jalisco with 27, Mexico State with 23, Veracruz with 20, Sinaloa with 16, and Chihuahua with 15.

The accelerated growth in the trend toward visiting betting houses has the legislature contemplating a new law to regulate games of chance and raffle, which will include online betting and standards on responsible betting. The guidelines propose four primary goals: to regulate all types of betting and raffles, safeguard consumer rights, ensure responsible gaming, and ensure that limits are put in place against illegal conduct.
