The holiday season officially kicked off at Tijuana City Hall on Tuesday evening, where Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz led the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.
The ceremony, held in the building’s central courtyard, doubled as a community event. The mayor handed out toys to local children, adding a personal touch to the celebration.

The newly lit tree will stay on display through the holidays for visitors and city staff to enjoy.
“I wish every family in Tijuana a Christmas filled with happiness and a New Year of health, unity, and hope,” Burgueño said during the event.

Live music and traditional Christmas carols set the tone for the evening. Several officials joined the mayor, including Secretary of Well-being Wendy Ontiveros González, City Auditor Teresita Balderas Beltrán, and Beatriz Olivares Pinal, head of the National Center for Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation. Council members, delegation delegates, and other municipal leaders were also present.

City Hall says the celebration aims to bring residents together and encourage families to take part in the season’s festivities.
