As part of the Mexican delegation, Tijuana Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado took the stage at the United Nations headquarters in New York during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, where global leaders are assessing both achievements and ongoing challenges in meeting the targets set by the 2030 Agenda.
“We have a valuable opportunity to showcase the strides our city has made toward the Sustainable Development Goals and to renew our pledge to foster more equitable and inclusive growth,” Gutiérrez stated.

The mayor emphasized that Tijuana’s participation in this international forum facilitates the exchange of best practices and underscores the critical role local governments play in addressing global issues.
“We will continue to raise Tijuana’s voice on the world stage, proving that vision and determination at the municipal level can drive meaningful transformation and development,” he added.
Gutiérrez Coronado also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the core principles that have long shaped Mexico’s foreign policy such as dialogue, international cooperation, human rights, and sustainable development.

During the forum, Mexico, speaking through the Tijuana mayor, placed particular emphasis on strengthening global partnerships to accelerate progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 9, which focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure. The delegation also called for public policies that support resilient, sustainable, and inclusive economies.
In line with this vision, Gutiérrez detailed Tijuana’s ongoing efforts to improve local communities, upgrade urban infrastructure, and advance industrial growth while maintaining a human-centered approach.
Closing his remarks, the mayor reiterated his commitment to aligning municipal actions with the 2030 Agenda.
“The 2030 Agenda reminds us that tackling today’s most pressing challenges demands collaboration across all levels of government, institutions, and civil society. From our local perspective, we will keep driving initiatives that bring these shared goals closer to reality,” he concluded.
