Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz attended the Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the U.S.–Mexico Chamber of Commerce, where business leaders and government officials from both countries discussed key issues for the northern border, including security, migration, economic development, and cross-border cooperation.
During his remarks, Burgueño Ruiz emphasized that Tijuana is the most populous municipality in Mexico, home to more than two million residents and nearly half a million commuters who contribute daily to the city’s economy.
On the topic of security, he noted that Tijuana is aligned with the federal public policy led by Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
“In Tijuana, we’ve managed to reduce homicides by nearly 40 percent through the use of technology, intelligence, and ongoing police training. This coordination also allows us to advance public policies that improve well-being and quality of life for our families,” the mayor said.

Burgueño Ruiz added that since the beginning of his administration, Tijuana has worked closely with U.S. authorities to streamline border crossings, reduce wait times, and enhance security in cross-border mobility.
Also participating in the panel, Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development, Pedro Montejo Peterson, showcased the city’s industrial strength and its strategic role in North America’s economy.
“A large portion of what’s produced in North America passes through Tijuana. We have major clusters such as medical devices and aerospace, and we’re promoting greater participation of national companies in supply chains to generate more jobs and industrial growth,” he said.
Montejo Peterson also highlighted innovative projects in energy generation and wastewater treatment.
“We’re building modern industrial infrastructure, including on-site energy and water treatment plants within our industrial parks — something no other city in Mexico is currently doing.”

The panel also featured John Beckham, Managing Director of the North American Development Bank; Robert Perez, founder of P4 Partners; and Ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne, Distinguished Diplomat in Residence at American University’s Inter-American Dialogue.
