A recent poll positions Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño as the front-runner for the Morena party’s candidacy in the upcoming Baja California gubernatorial election, significantly outpacing other potential contenders.

According to a survey conducted by renowned pollster Mitofsky, Burgueño currently holds the highest level of support among those vying for the party’s nomination. The poll, which surveyed 1,200 residents across the state from February 19 to 22, 2026, indicates a substantial lead for the mayor.

When respondents were asked who they preferred as the Morena candidate for governor, the mayor of Tijuana garnered 42.8% of the preferences. He is followed by fellow Morena member Julieta Ramírez with 29.5%, and Senator Armando Ayala with 9.8%.

Other mentioned aspirants include Fernando Castro with 5.2% and Jesús Ruiz with 4.1%. Meanwhile, 6.1% of those surveyed stated they preferred “none” of the listed candidates, and 1.5% were undecided or did not respond.

Burgueño’s advantage is not confined to just Morena sympathizers. The poll reveals he is the aspirant with the highest individual preference overall, effectively doubling or even tripling the support levels of his nearest competitors. This broad base of support cements his status as the best-positioned figure within Morena for the Baja California race.
