Mayor Ismael Burgueño reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education this week by signing a collaboration agreement with the Instituto de Estudios Superiores UNIMETI, aimed at expanding academic and professional opportunities for young people in Tijuana.
The signing ceremony took place Wednesday at City Hall, where Mayor Burgueño welcomed UNIMETI Director Sara Leticia Rodríguez Salinas. The event underscored education as a key pillar for development and community well-being.
“This administration has made education a central focus. I’m committed to creating the conditions to support both public and private schools with infrastructure and other needs,” the mayor said.
The agreement, coordinated through the Head Administrative Office, will allow students to carry out social service and professional internships within government departments. It also includes benefits such as scholarships, tuition discounts, training programs, and advisory services for government employees and their families.
During the event, Rodríguez shared that UNIMETI (Metropolitan University of Tijuana) was founded in the eastern zone of the city in 2012 and began operating in 2013 with just nine students. Today, the university has 450 enrolled across hybrid and executive-format programs. It currently offers four bachelor’s degrees: Business Administration and International Trade, Foreign Trade and Customs, Computer Science, and Law.
Mayor Burgueño was joined at the signing by officials from both the Head Administrative Office and UNIMETI.
