Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Underscores Shared Goals with San Diego During Chamber Trip to Mexico City

Mayor Burgueño met with San Diego and federal leaders to reaffirm the importance of collaboration and shared progress across the border.

Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz joined the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual visit to Mexico City this week, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ongoing collaboration between Tijuana and San Diego.

Burgueño highlighted the importance of maintaining open communication and active partnerships with both public and private sectors on both sides of the border to boost the region’s economic and social development.

“I reaffirm the ties that unite us as the Cali-Baja region,” the mayor said. “Our strength lies in raising our voices together for the issues that matter most on both sides of the border.”

Advancing Shared Priorities

The mayor thanked San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and Chamber President and CEO Chris Cate for their continued efforts to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as economic growth, migration, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.

“The strength of this binational community goes far beyond geography,” Burgueño added. “It’s a relationship built on shared challenges, mutual goals, and a common vision for regional prosperity.”

The 19th annual visit, taking place from October 12 to 15, brings together local officials, lawmakers, and business leaders from Mexico and the United States.

Other attendees include Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development Pedro Montejo, Mexico’s Consul General in San Diego Alicia Kerber Palma, Congresswoman Evelyn Sánchez Sánchez, and Federal Deputy Gilberto Herrera Solórzano.

Meetings with Federal and Private-Sector Leaders

During the trip, participants are holding meetings with Mexican federal officials, legislators, and private-sector representatives to discuss topics including border efficiency, water and infrastructure management, energy policy, sustainability, migration, public safety, and trade opportunities.

Through his participation, Mayor Burgueño reaffirmed Tijuana’s commitment to binational cooperation, emphasizing that good governance means achieving results, staying present, and building connections that go beyond borders.
