TIJUANA.- According to a press release, Tijuana & Tecate's National Chamber of Restaurants and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC) reported a 20% increase in patronage to Tijuana restaurants over the weekend.

Martín Muñoz Avilés, president of CANIRAC, mentioned that restaurant clientele increased due to Mother's Day celebration, mainly in the 5 y 10, Zona Río and Otay areas.

"In downtown, we took off pretty early, specially among the places were they serve Mexican breakfast. We had higher expectations, however, we hope to close up with a better night and afternoon."

Muñoz also mentioned that this date is when many Mexican-American families reunite with their mother, on this occasion Mexican Mother's Day was on the same date as the US celebration.

According to Frontera, Chinese food restaurants also increased their sales up to 90%, filling up their establishments, said Miguel Chen, China King Buffet's restaurant consultant, an considerable improvement (and sigh of relief) for the Chinese food industry in the city after the embarrassing incident with dog meat two months ago.
