What is supposed to be a 20 minute commute has become an hour one by trying to avoid constant roadwork on the main streets of the city. The Tijuana Development Council (CDT) said that this delay in road infrastructure work is one of the main causes of traffic jams.

One of the projects that comes out to shine is the one of the 20 de Noviembre neighborhood. "It's a very delayed project, as we were told that they would at least open a single lane for traffic while the project is delayed, but that hasn't happened and it's still causing a lot of problems," said Gabriel Camarena Salinas, president of the CDT.

From Otay to Rio areas, passing through the Aguacaliente and Diaz Ordaz boulevards and the Via Rapidas, are red routes on Google Maps' traffic tool, causing a vehicular stress that according to Camerana, "produces non-optimal behaviors" among drivers.

Added to this are the inefficient and, frankly plain bad, public transport systems, so the CDT is committed to carry out a transit development study, to have on hand an official way to address the problems many citizens express in social media and in public forums, from problems about the conditions of roads to public transport and traffic lights.
