Tijuana Steps Up Patrols, Surveillance for Month-Long Holiday Safety Effort

Police will focus on banks, shopping centers, border crossings, and high-traffic areas as holiday activity spikes.

From December 1, 2025 through January 6, 2026, Tijuana will roll out its annual “Diciembre Seguro” (Safe December) operation, a citywide effort to protect residents and visitors during the busy holiday season.

According to the city’s Department of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCM), the operation will run 24/7 and adjust schedules for major events and heavy foot-traffic days. The deployment will cover all city districts, with support from municipal, state, and federal agencies.

Surge in Holiday Activity

Authorities expect increased commercial activity throughout December tied to pilgrimages, Christmas celebrations, bonus payouts, and New Year’s Eve events. To respond, police will reinforce patrols in shopping centers, commercial corridors, and financial zones. Traffic control will be stepped up during peak dates, and officers will be assigned to respond quickly to emergencies.

Officials emphasized the importance of public reporting during the season and encouraged residents to use the city’s emergency app to report suspicious or criminal activity.

Police Presence and High-Risk Areas

The operation includes 836 officers, 424 patrol units, and 60 police motorcycles. The force will prioritize surveillance at banks, ATMs, shopping plazas, the downtown area, industrial parks, currency exchange offices, and areas where workers receive year-end bonuses, which are considered high-risk spots for theft.

Patrols will also focus on preventing home incidents, fires, traffic accidents, robberies, and phone extortion attempts. Officers will be stationed at strategic locations and will conduct regular patrols across major streets and high-traffic areas, including reinforced monitoring at border crossings.

Technology and Monitoring

City authorities will expand the use of surveillance tools during the holiday period, including the “Comercio Seguro” alert buttons, public and private security cameras, drone patrols, and digital platforms for citizen reports.

The operation will remain active throughout the holiday season with the goal of ensuring safer streets and faster response times as Tijuana heads into one of its busiest times of the year.
