Taquería El Tijuanazo is bringing the bold flavors of Tijuana to the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy with the opening of its second location in the city. The news, first reported by SanDiegoVille, follows the overwhelming success of the brand’s Hillcrest branch, which launched earlier this year.
The new restaurant will move into the former Swagyu Butcher Shop location at 2102 India Street.
A Rising Star in California’s Taco Scene
Founded in 2008 by Antonio and Claudia Esquivel in Playas de Tijuana (originally under the name TacoNazo) El Tijuanazo has built a loyal following thanks to its signature tacos, friendly service, and fresh ingredients. After a legal dispute over the original name, the business rebranded as El Tijuanazo and has continued to grow ever since.
Their U.S. expansion is now led by the founders’ daughters, Karyme and Aria Esquivel. The brand made its first U.S. debut in Los Angeles, followed by a second location in Hillcrest, San Diego. Both restaurants have earned long lines and a devoted local fan base.
The menu pays tribute to Tijuana-style tacos, with specialties like carne asada, adobada, beef birria, suadero, and house-made tortillas served with creamy guacamole.
Alongside the classics, El Tijuanazo also offers inventive options like the taco azteca, wrapped in grilled cactus, and a flavorful selection of roasted chile güeros, nopales, and onions.
With its new outpost in Little Italy, El Tijuanazo is set to keep winning over San Diego’s taco lovers.
