21 products are classified as basic basket products and they are enough to cover the necessities of a four-member family for one week. Among these products there are: corn tortillas, beans, rice grains, fresh whole chicken, beefsteak, pork chops, serrano pepper, onions, tomatoes, apples, limes, melons, bread, potatoes, carrots, brown sugar, soup pasta, toilet paper, and soap.
The Bank of Mexico divides the country in four zones and these are the ones used to encompass the prices of these products. After almost one month, Tijuana has left the list of the most expensive places in all of Northern Mexico.
The supermarket that has taken Tijuana’s place is Ley Mart in Hermosillo, Sonora where one can get these 21 products for $944.55 pesos. It should be noted that, last week, Soriana Híper in Plaza Río and Soriana Súper in Ruiz Cortines ramp were both first place as the most expensive and they have now disappeared from this ranking.
