The Madero neighborhood, better known as colonia Cacho, is already embracing the holiday season. Its cafés, bakeries, and restaurants now have a vibrant new neighbor: San Juan Jardinería, a family-run pop-up that opened just a week ago on Avenida Ensenada and arrived right on time for poinsettia season.
A Family Project Rooted in the Holidays
San Diego Red visited the new garden, which immediately stands out thanks to its bright red displays and festive atmosphere. The space is run by siblings Selene and Gilberto Verdugo, who brought in hundreds of poinsettias to offer a local, attractive, and affordable option for anyone looking to decorate their home.

The project is only the beginning. The siblings plan to turn the space into a full nursery, which they expect to inaugurate in March 2026. But for now, they’re focused on this seasonal garden filled with poinsettias in a range of sizes.
Poinsettias for Every Budget
San Juan Jardinería offers a wide selection of plants and prices:
- Small poinsettias starting at 65 pesos (about $4 USD)
- Extra-large varieties reaching 1,875 pesos (about $110 USD)
Larger plants include a decorative clay pot, ideal for adding an elegant touch to any space
The pop-up has quickly become a go-to spot for everything from a simple holiday detail to a statement plant that brightens an entire home.
