Tijuana’s flagship cleanup program, Tijuana: Clean City, expanded this weekend into the neighborhoods of La Presa Este, La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez, and Cerro Colorado. Led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño, the initiative focuses on trash collection, deep cleaning, and infrastructure upgrades as part of an ongoing effort to improve public spaces and quality of life. To date, the program has directly benefited more than 7,000 residents across the city.

On Sunday morning, municipal crews and residents worked together in the Natura neighborhood of La Presa Este, clearing an illegal dumping site and removing about 42 tons of household and bulk waste. The effort improved living conditions for roughly 5,000 residents.

Later that same day, the program continued in the Héroes de la Independencia neighborhood of La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez. Crews carried out major maintenance at Parque de Las Torres, clearing debris across more than 27,000 square feet and repainting a 2,150-square-foot sports court. The upgrades are expected to benefit about 1,000 residents.

The cleanup concluded in the Presidentes neighborhood of Cerro Colorado, where workers collected an additional 5.5 tons of garbage, improving conditions for another 1,200 residents.

Adriana Barrera Hernández, acting head of Delegation Coordination, highlighted the importance of both government action and citizen participation.

“We must report people we catch dumping trash by calling 072. We cannot stay silent,” Barrera said. “Part of this program is that we also have the responsibility as citizens to keep these spaces clean.”

Barrera reiterated Mayor Burgueño’s directive for all municipal delegations to deliver organized, coordinated, and timely responses to community requests, reinforcing the city’s goal of a cleaner, more sustainable Tijuana.
