Governor Marina del Pilar said Monday that Tijuana’s long-awaited elevated roadway linking the Tijuana International Airport with Playas de Tijuana is still not ready for an official opening, despite visible progress on construction.
Her comments put an end to recent speculation about a possible partial opening. Speaking during her morning press conference, the governor said several key elements of the project remain unfinished, making it impossible to open the route for now. The original construction timeline, she said, remains in effect.

The delay mainly affects the stretch running from the El Chaparral area toward Playas de Tijuana. Additional work is also needed on the section heading back toward the airport, including the final layer of road surfacing.

Ávila Olmeda praised the specialized engineering teams from Mexico’s Department of National Defense, which is overseeing construction of the project.
“This is a highly technical project that can’t be rushed,” she said. “But it’s going to be a top-quality piece of infrastructure for the people of Tijuana and Baja California. Once it opens, the difference will be clear.”
