Tijuana is moving forward with a major renovation of Parque Natura in the La Presa Este area, aiming to revive a community park that has long fallen into disrepair. The city is investing 2.67 million pesos in upgrades designed to improve recreation options for families.
The project, overseen by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz’s administration, includes repairs to the park’s storage building and pergola, construction of a new 433-square-meter sports court, and an 81-square-meter pedestrian walkway, according to Josué Gutiérrez Márquez, director of Municipal Public Services.
Recreational spaces are also getting significant attention. A 141-square-meter skating area and a 140-square-meter playground are undergoing full rehabilitation. Additional improvements include new park lighting, grass installation across more than 1,100 square meters, and bollard-style lamps for safer nighttime use.

“This is a magnificent project for the Natura community. It’s a space that was forgotten for years, and Mayor Ismael Burgueño has tasked us with recovering it to restore dignity to this family recreation area,” Gutiérrez Márquez said.

City officials estimate the upgrades will benefit roughly 54,000 residents, or about 14,000 households, in surrounding neighborhoods.
Adriana Barrera Hernández, acting head of Delegation Coordination, emphasized community involvement in maintaining the upgrades.
“A united community always achieves good things. It’s vital that this space remains as clean and welcoming as it will be when delivered, so everyone can enjoy it,” she said.

The site inspection included Carlos Gastélum Félix, director of Municipal Works and Urban Infrastructure; Joaquín Sandoval Chávez, La Presa Este delegate; and residents of the Natura–Sección Bosques community.
City leaders say the renovation is part of a broader effort to improve the condition and safety of public spaces across Tijuana.
