The Mexican astronaut Rodolfo Neri Vela got a little romantic during his visit to Veracruz where he was questioned about the Esmeralda Rodriguez Gonzalez, who supposedly preferred staying in Mexico with the love of her life rather than to go work at NASA, his comment on the matter was: "If someone prefers love instead of working at NASA, it's a smart thing to do: Love is not easy to find".
In the statements made to the news paper El Universal en Veracruz, Neri Vela commented during the presentation of his book "Lineas de Transmisión" (Lines of transmission) that Esmeralda has every right to choose that which benefits her the most, even though most Mexicans think that working at NASA is a dream come true.
Rodriguez commented a few days later it she was not dismissing NASA for love, but rather because of lack of economic resources, which she has received from the Government and is still waiting for a formal invitation from NASA itself.
Neri Vela took this time to talk about the future of a Mexican space unit, which would be fully backed by Mexico's congress.
