TIJUANA – Authorities torched more than seven tons of illegal drugs and counterfeit items Friday at a military base, announced Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office.

The drugs and items, seized in various federal investigations, were destroyed at the 28th Infantry Battalion at Aguaje de la Tuna, south of the city.

The incinerated drugs included more than seven tons of marijuana, and various amounts of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine, and 199 marijuana plants and seeds, the announcement said.

Also destroyed were 126,253 compact discs, DVDs, disc covers, 27 small slot machines, among other items.

The announcement said the destruction of the fake items was part of the national strategy to protect individual and companies’ rights.
