Ten years ago, professional skateboarder Tony Hawk made a stop at the San Ángel Skatepark in Tijuana while on his way to a Nomadxtv event at the Centro Cultural Tijuana. To mark the anniversary, Hawk shared two photos from that day on his social media, asking if any of the skaters in the pictures are still skating today.
The post quickly filled with reactions and comments, including some from people who were there and even shared their own photos with the skating legend.
During his visit, Hawk had also expressed interest in building a skatepark in the city. However, the project faced challenges—mainly the difficulty of finding a suitable location—and never materialized.
This wasn’t Hawk’s first connection to Tijuana. Back in 1998, he visited the Plaza Monumental in Playas de Tijuana to film clips for his documentary The End.

Who is Tony Hawk?
Tony Hawk is one of the most influential figures in skateboarding history. Beyond being a professional skater, he is an entrepreneur and founder of the company Birdhouse. Throughout his career, he invented numerous tricks. In 1985, he became the first to land a “720” (two full spins), and in 1999, he cemented his place in skateboarding history by landing the first-ever “900” (two and a half spins). That same year, he launched the groundbreaking video game franchise Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater with Activision, bringing skateboarding culture to a global audience.
Although Hawk retired from professional competition in 2003, his legacy continues to inspire. His recent post not only stirred nostalgia but also showed how deeply he remains connected to the skateboarding community.
