The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of a frequently purchased prepared food item found at Trader Joe’s stores after the discovery of “foreign objects” within the product.
Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. issued a recall for several products sold at Trader Joe’s locations due to the presence of glass pieces.
According to the recall notice, over 9.8 million pounds (more than 4.4 million kilograms) of the company’s Vegetable Fried Rice have been pulled from shelves. Other affected products include:
- Chicken Fried Rice: Expiration dates ranging from March 4, 2026, to February 10, 2027.
- Japanese-Style Fried Rice: Expiration dates ranging from February 28, 2026, to November 14, 2026.
- Chicken Shu Mai: Expiration dates ranging from March 13, 2026, to October 23, 2026.
- For the Vegetable Fried Rice packages specifically, expiration dates fall between late February and mid-November 2026.

Officials report that the glass fragments measure approximately 1 to 3 centimeters in length and 2 to 4 millimeters in width. The affected products were distributed to a total of 43 states, including California.
The recall has been classified as Class II by the FDA, a designation used for situations where use of a product may cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, or where the likelihood of serious health consequences is remote.
Customers who have purchased any of the recalled items are advised to discard them immediately or return them to the store where they were originally purchased.
