Starting in mid-November, drivers heading to the U.S. through the San Ysidro Port of Entry will follow new access routes for the SENTRI and All Traffic lanes.

Sentri Lane: Access will now be via Segunda Street in the Downtown area. Approaching the port, the lane will divide into two on the ascending curve, merge into one, and then split again into two just before the inspection filters.

All Traffic Lane: Access will be limited to Paseo de los Héroes in Zona del Río.

According to Pedro Montejo Peterson, Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development, the pilot program aims to improve traffic flow and will be evaluated after four months.

The new configuration—selected following traffic studies conducted in January and April—was determined to be the most straightforward solution with the greatest potential impact.

“The reason is clear. We have four times more vehicles using the Sentri lanes than the All Traffic lanes, but we only had Padre Kino street assigned for Sentri,” Montejo Peterson stated.

To ensure a smooth transition, the city will introduce new road signage and launch a public awareness campaign before the changes take effect. An informational video outlining the new routes and start date will also be released.

Additionally, officials will work with the Department of Mobility to adjust traffic control operations to the new flow patterns. Montejo Peterson noted that long wait times and congestion have hindered both productivity and urban mobility, ultimately affecting Tijuana’s economic development.
