TIJUANA.- The storied Mexican "luchador" Mil Máscaras is the subject of a tribute this weekend during the annual arts and cultural Festival Interzona.

Mil Máscaras (A Thousand Masks) was a Mexican wrestler who for nearly forty years captured the imagination of fans at home and abroad. He starred in 17 lucha libre films in a career that ended in 1990.

On Friday, the Centro Cultural Tijuana (Cecut) will screen at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. two of his most popular films, "Las Momias de Guanajuato" and "Una Rosa Sobre el Ring."

And on Saturday, the center holds a round-table discussion at 5 p.m. about the wrestler's career and the impact he had. The scheduled speakers include Víctor Alejandro Espinoza Valle, a researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte; René Mora, sports writer; the wrestler El Médico Asesino; and Leobardo Sarabia, the director Festival Interzona.

Both events are free.

The nine-day independent Festival Interzona celebrates the cultural and artistic diversity of the city. The event started on Sept. 16 and ends Saturday. The festival consists of concerts, film screenings, ballet presentations, roundtable discussions, plays and other artistic expressions that are held in streets, neighborhoods, cultural centers and independent art spaces.

The festival includes a free concert by the band Ozomatli on Friday, starting at 7 p.m., on avenida Revolución, between First and Second streets.
