U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his focus on Greenland on Sunday, claiming that NATO has spent the past two decades urging Denmark to address what he described as a growing Russian threat tied to the Arctic territory.
In a post on social media, Trump alleged that Denmark has repeatedly failed to act on NATO’s concerns.
“NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that ‘you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland,’” Trump wrote. “Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!”

As of Sunday, neither the Danish government nor NATO had issued an official response to Trump’s remarks.
The comments underscore Greenland’s renewed strategic importance as geopolitical competition intensifies in the Arctic. The vast, resource-rich island is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and its location has increasingly drawn attention from major global powers amid shifting security dynamics in the region.
