US President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Iran on Sunday, demanding the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and reiterating his firm opposition to Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump accused Iran of breaking its promise to keep the vital maritime passage open, warning that continued delays would only cause “permanent harm to the reputation of Iran and what’s left of their “Leaders”.
“They better begin the process of getting this INTERNATIONAL WATERWAY OPEN AND FAST!” Trump said.
The president also pointed to unconfirmed reports of mining activity in the strait, which he argued increases risks for international navigation and creates uncertainty in global trade.
Trump further revealed that he had been briefed on recent diplomatic meetings in Pakistan involving high-ranking officials from both the U.S. and Iran.
Despite nearly 20 hours of negotiations, he said, Iran has shown no willingness to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
“IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!,” Trump wrote. ” I have always said, right from the beginning, and many years ago, IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”
