After an 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern Russian coast on Tuesday, Mexico’s Navy confirmed that there is no tsunami risk for Baja California or anywhere else in the country.
The Tsunami Alert Center had forecasted slight variations in sea level around midnight in the northwestern state of Baja California.
These changes coincided with the region’s high tide, making them largely unnoticeable. However, authorities later recorded waves reaching up to 0.70 meters (about 2.3 feet) in height, accompanied by strong currents in port areas. As a precaution, Baja California’s Civil Protection advised the public to stay informed through official channels and avoid visiting beaches during the alert.

Meanwhile, Ensenada’s Civil Protection revealed that the city is currently monitoring the situation with low risk and no imminent danger expected. Local authorities have asked people to remain calm and seek information only from official sources.
“In case of any risk level change, people will be informed immediately. We continue to monitor the situation in real time,” officials explained.
