TIJUANA – Baja California's mountainous wind farm at La Rumorosa will be one of the stars of the Weather Channel's "Turbine Cowboys," which will travel around the world highlighting wind-energy projects.

The state's tourism department announced that the show will air next April. The program features a group of intrepid engineers and other mechanical experts in wind generation who travel around the world.

David De Angelis, the show's associate producer, said that the team will visit the Parque Eólico Rumorosa, in the municipality of Tecate, after taping in Alaska.

"It's Baja California's first such plant and Mexico's second," he said. "It's important for us to share that."

In addition, Baja California has spectacular views, a great natural beauty, the warmth of its people, and it's all near California, which makes it an ideal place to do any production, he added.

The first phase of the $25.2 million wind farm was inaugurated in March 2010 by President Felipe Calderón and Gov. José Guadalupe Osuna Millán.

The farm has five wind turbines, which each produces 2 megawatts. It's in a zone where wind whips through mountainous passages.

The show will detail how the wind farm was constructed and its operation. The program is produced by BCII and Luminaria Entertainment.
