U.S. and Mexico Hold Security Talks Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Officials met to coordinate safety plans and intelligence sharing as preparations ramp up for the tournament.

U.S. and Mexican officials met in Tijuana this week for a binational security meeting focused on preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off June 11, 2026.

The goal of the meeting was to align security protocols and strengthen intelligence sharing ahead of the international tournament, which will bring millions of visitors to North America.

In a statement, the U.S. Consulate General Tijuana said recent incidents over the weekend underscored the importance of close, ongoing coordination between both countries. Officials stressed that seamless cooperation will be key to maintaining public safety before and during the event.

Participants included representatives from the consulate, Mexico’s Department of National Defense (SEDENA), Baja California state security officials, the Tijuana Citizen Security Department, and Mexico’s National Guard.

“The United States and Mexico are working together not only to protect our citizens and visitors, but to ensure that fans from around the world have a safe and memorable experience during the 2026 World Cup in North America,” the consulate said.
