TIJUANA. – Uber and Tijuana's local government representatives will meet this next Tuesday, December 8, in order to analyze the "possible regulation" of ridesharing services like Uber.

Tijuana's Secretary of Interior, Bernardo Padilla Muñoz, emphasized that the government has always wanted to keep a direct dialogue with all of the licensed transit operators that provide service in Tijuana, which is why this meeting will strengthen the transparency policy that has been characteristic of this administration.

"We have settled on a meeting with the heads of the company, to know their labor conditions, their organization and status, as well as their availability to adjust and faithfully respond to their needs, Tijuana's administration and above all, the local citizens, while maintaining the order, the security and the transit system's efficiency.", said the local public servant.

That same day, Uber's board of directors will have another meeting with the Road and Transit Committee (Comisión de Vialidad y Transporte in Spanish) of the City Council of Tijuana, which is headed by councilmember Francisco Javier Hernández Vera, in which they will explain the conditions to which Uber will have to adhere, according to what's established in the current regulations.

Uber confirmed the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, saying that:

"We appreciate Tijuana's administration, headed by Dr. Jorge Astiazarán and the Road and Transit Committee, for opening the dialogue scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday, December 8, where we will meet with each of these organizations. We are excited to present them our proposal for a regulation that benefits the local citizens who have found in Uber a safe and efficient transportation option, as well as the ones who make an honest living by offering their service as a private driver."

Tijuana's local government also stated that they "reaffirm their commitment of providing a transit system worthy of servicing its citizens and of tending to all social sectors, as well as answering the citizen's demands by being open and transparent, always looking for the citizens' well-being."
