MEXICO.- A few hours ago Mexican newspaper La Jornada informed that the Attorneys Office Specialized in Dealing with Electoral Offenses (FEPADE in Spanish) could take up to three months to resolve the case of the Soriana store credit cards. In addition, judges could reject the case if the vote buying is not proved.
The toughest element in the investigation will be naming which members of the Alliance for Mexico (Institutional Revolutionary Party plus the Green Ecologist Party) or electoral teams supporting their candidates promoted the buying and coercion of the votes; identifying the citizens who received the gift cards will also be difficult.
The existence of over 2,000 store credit cards has been mentioned and even a Japanese newspaper has stated that Enrique Peña Nietos team spent 71 millions of Mexican pesos buying votes but the evidence presented to the FEPADE are not enough.
September 06 is the deadline to settle every case regarding electoral offenses.
The FEPADE also informed that in the Tenango del Aire municipality, State of Mexico, a storage facility holding 99 basic-food packages which would be used to buy votes was found through an anonymous citizen report.
