Regarding this, the Chancellor specified that it was the U.S. authorities who made the decision to extend the restrictions, since there are cities that have not finished the vaccination of their citizens. He affirmed that the idea of the U.S. authorities is to lift the restrictions once the vaccination is finished.
He also informed that they are not far from this mission. According to the San Diego County News Center, in an update two days ago, 67% of citizens over 12 years of age have already received one of the vaccine doses, while 37.7% are fully immunized.
Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard assured that there is no definite date, but there are conditions that both sides of the border need to have in order for a reopening to non-essential travel to take place. For him, the ideal time for the reopening would be in the summer, for which reason he is in talks to relax the restrictions as of June 22.
The reopening of the borders will take place soon, completely, because also on the U.S. side there is a demand for the normalization of relations and full exchanges.
