Wine consumption has tripled the last decade in Mexico, which is a really positive panorama for all wineries at Valle de Guadalupe. However, wine makers are now worried about water shortages in the region and how this could affect production.
According to Frontera, this has been expected since 2000, but there's no official answer that explains the real problem with water in the region, which directly affects not only wineries and Tourism, but the population and farming industry.
"We know there's several projects and ideas to bring treated or clear water from Tecate, but first, we need to settle a project; we had a couple of meetings with the National Committee of Water (Conagua) and with Cicese. The idea is to make a trip to Napa, CA to see how they work with treated water." explained the President of the ProWine Committee, Hans Backhoff, to Frontera.
[pThe water shortage has not yet diminished the production of wineries, but there was an issue in San Vicente that had to do with the heatwave in the region, which affected their wine blends.

The Committee already stressed their problems to the authorities, whom assure that there will be a solution before the end of Francisco Vega administration as a Governor.
