MEXICO. – "Having zero fatalities had a lot to do with Mexico's faith", Enrique Peña Nieto's statement has become viral on social media and has also received a lot of backlash, with some users even saying "Lets pray so that he goes away."

During the 13th edition of the Mexico Business Summit (Mexico Cumbre de Negocios), president Enrique Peña Nieto pointed out that having zero fatalities despite the dangers that the massive Hurricane Patricia represented, was greatly due to the nation's faith, "Having faith in ourselves and getting together to gather this great positive energy was the main reason for averting this disaster" said the president.

"We came together to create great positive energy. There were chains of prayer" he stated. Although he also expressed his gratitude to the people for taking notice of the alerts sent out by the federal government as well as of instructions from the nation's Civil Protection office.

The secretary of Social Development, José Antonio Meade, said this morning that approximately 10,000 people in Mexico were affected by the hurricane; they also estimate that around 3,000 to 3,500 houses were damaged.
