UNITED STATES.- After recent news that a grand jury ruled not to indict in the case of
Michael Brown, a young African American shot and killed by a white police man in Ferguson, Missouri, outrage and protest has quickly spread across the country.
This has led many to ask, is the problem the law, the police, or society?
VIDEO: Why are cops rarely tried for killing black men?
In a video posted by Vox.com, an explanation is given that states that the reason has to do with all three, namely, the law, the police, and society, but has the most to do with society's perception that police have more credibility than black youth in the country. Although this credibility has been reduced considerably, this video concludes that it is time to change the laws to reflect the reduced confidence that society has towards cops in order to avoid violent confrontations.
The video also presented interesting statistics, most notably:
Black youth are 21 times more likely to be shot by a cop than a white youth.
The general population overestimates the amount of criminals that are black.
