A video circulating on social media shows the moment journalist Roxana Berenice Guzmán Ramírez was violently kidnapped from her home in the municipality of Nanchital, southern Veracruz, on the morning of Tuesday, June 2.
The footage, shared shortly after the incident, has prompted outrage and an official investigation by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Veracruz.
In the recording, a man is seen striking the glass of the home’s front door with a sledgehammer. A resident attempts to negotiate with the assailants, but as he approaches the entrance, a second hooded subject threatens him with a long gun, forcing him back. The resident repeatedly warns that a baby is inside the house. Despite this, the armed men force their way in, subdue the residents, and order them to lie on the floor. The video ends abruptly as one of the attackers snatches the cell phone from the person recording.
Who is Roxana Guzmán?
Roxana Berenice Guzmán Ramírez is the director of the news outlet Pulso Informativo del Sureste in Nanchital, Veracruz.
In 2017, she left the state of Veracruz following the murder of her husband, who was killed in front of her. She then decided to return to her hometown in 2025, where she relaunched her news portal. The outlet had been gaining significant local recognition for covering stories that other media outlets were not addressing.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Veracruz reported that it has opened an investigation file through the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Coatzacoalcos regarding Roxana’s disappearance.
Upon learning of the events, the agency deployed a team of prosecutors, experts, and judicial police to clarify what happened, locate the victim, and identify those responsible.
“The investigations will be carried out in strict adherence to the law, respect for human rights, and protection of personal data, until the victim’s whereabouts are found and those who participated in these events are brought to justice,” the agency stated in a release.
As of now, the whereabouts of Roxana Guzmán Ramírez remain unknown, and authorities have not released details about the other individuals who were inside the home at the time of the armed break-in.
