GERMANY.- After the fraud scandal that revealed that German automobile company, Volkswagen, had equipped 11 million cars around the world with a software destined to manipulate pollution emissions, Martin Winterkon, president of the company, has resigned from his post.

Through a statement he said: "Volkswagen needs a fresh start and personally, so do I. With my resignation, I'm clearing the way for this new start." His replacement will be announced on Friday.

On the other hand, Chancellor Angela Merkel, requested the company take measures as soon as possible to restore the company reliability, which up until now has lost a third of its value since this crisis started. German attorneys have indicated that they are undergoing a preliminary investigation regarding the manipulation of these test in behalf of Volkswagen.
