On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host, Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Paisa” located at Blvd. Universidad 21470. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and a suadero taco both priced at $1.20 dollars ($24 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This was the first taco our host tried and it has carne asada (grilled meat), guacamole, onion, coriander, sauce, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. It was such a surprise for Chef Danny, that he had to bite twice because the tortillas had a very good size, they were quite soft, and they were well humidified.

When he took his first bite, the corn mixed well with the avocado and the meat, which had a good seasoning and was a good serving. The sauce, made out of tomato, was not spicy at all. He added that one can notice when the tortilla is handmade because the dough is worked on before it is put on the skillet. The guacamole, however, ended up being watery guacamole which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.3.

Price: $1.20 dollars ($24 pesos)

Suadero Taco

This taco has suadero (breast and thigh beef), onion, coriander, Mexican husk tomato sauce, bird beak’s chili, tomato, and is served on two store bought tortillas. Though the tortillas are smaller than in the previous taco, this taco had a good protein serving.

The store bought tortillas’ flavor was quickly identifiable due to the subtle touches. Despite this, the sauce was a 10/10 for Chef Danny, since it had the perfect balance of acidity, spiciness, and seasoning. The suadero, though it didn’t have a vibrant color, surprised Danny for its great flavor and its very soft texture. The only element that failed here was the tortillas, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.6.

Price: $1.20 dollars ($24 pesos)
