Dense fog and adverse weather conditions have disrupted flight operations at Tijuana International Airport “Abelardo L. Rodríguez,” leading to delays and cancellations of both domestic and international flights. If your travel plans were affected, here’s what passengers need to know and what options are currently available.

Airline-specific options

Volaris advised passengers that if their flight is affected, they can manage their booking through the “My Trips” section of the airline’s mobile app or official website. Available options include a date change at no additional cost, subject to availability; a voucher worth 125% of the original fare; or a refund request.

Viva Aerobus recommends passengers check their flight status directly on its official website. If a flight is disrupted, travelers can modify their travel date online, helping reduce wait times and streamline rebooking.

Aeroméxico allows passengers to verify flight status by entering their flight number or destination on its official portal. The airline then presents available alternatives based on its policies for weather-related delays or cancellations.

Profeco Monitoring Flight Disruptions

Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) reported that it has maintained ongoing operations at its airport service modules and has been notified of the flight disruptions affecting multiple airlines due to weather conditions at Tijuana International Airport.

According to Profeco, these weather phenomena pose a safety risk, as secure conditions for aircraft takeoff and landing cannot be guaranteed. As a result, temporary airport closures or limited operations may lead to cascading delays or cancellations across the country throughout the day.

PROFECO clarified that because these disruptions are caused by weather conditions, they are not attributable to airlines. Therefore, carriers are not legally required to provide compensation, lodging, or meals. However, airlines are still obligated to transport affected passengers to their final contracted destination.

Where Passengers Can Receive Assistance

PROFECO personnel are available to assist travelers at airports with permanent consumer service modules, where they can provide guidance, information, and mediation if necessary. These airports include Mexico City International Airport, Tulum International Airport, Cancún International Airport, Felipe Ángeles International Airport, Toluca International Airport, Guanajuato International Airport, Tijuana International Airport, Monterrey International Airport, and Guadalajara International Airport.

Passengers may also contact PROFECO through the consumer hotline at 55 5568 8722 or 800 468 8722, or use the agency’s online dispute resolution platform, Concilianet.
