In an interview with Mexican newspaper El Sol de Tijuana, Sergio Montes de Oca, chief of the department for protection against forest fires of the National Forest Commission (Conafor), stated that this is only the begging of a long and complicated fire season.

Due to the heatwaves, this season could turn really problematic, he said:

"We have topographical conditions that favor these types of fires; the only piece missing is the weather conditions, such as temperature, wind and relative humidity."
