Eight homes were destroyed early Thursday when a fast-moving fire swept through the Rosario López Castellanos area in the Reforma neighborhood.

Fire official Ramón López said strong winds intensified the flames and made the response especially challenging. The first 911 call reported a single home on fire, but when crews arrived and saw the blaze racing up the hillside, they immediately called for backup.

Lightweight construction materials and powerful gusts allowed the flames to spread within minutes, burning through eight wooden structures and keeping firefighters on scene for more than an hour before the fire was contained.

Despite the intensity of the blaze and the total loss of the homes involved, no injuries were reported. Four engines, six water tenders, and 20 firefighters responded. Neighbors also worked to protect nearby houses by soaking their roofs and walls with garden hoses.

Crews remained in the area afterward to put out hotspots and check for additional hazards.

State Civil Protection officials noted that strong winds were forecast along the Baja California coast, bringing conditions that can rapidly accelerate the spread of wildfires.
