Authorities such as the mayor of Mexicali, Marina del Pilar, confirmed the full closure of casinos in this municipality of Baja California, as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Secretary Alonso Pérez Rico, said this was a decision that was being analyzed due to the high mobility observed in the state, and therefore opted for closures.
On the other hand, swap meets will only be able to operate at 50% in Baja California, but in the neighborhoods where active cases accumulate these markets will not be able to be installed, indicated the head of the Health Secretariat.
"It is a consequence of an act that we are not doing. And what follows after that are restaurants, inevitably that is what follows; restaurants and other shopping centers like department stores. What more evidence do you want so that you understand that people are mobilizing, just go to the malls and tell me if there are few people," mentioned Pérez Rico.
Authorities assured that as long as mobility does not decrease, they will continue with such closures, "we have no other option".
And although for the moment this closure of casinos was only authorized in the state capital, Pérez Rico also pointed out that, " taking into consideration what is happening in the rest of the municipalities, a decision can be made to close them at a state level, and that's how we're going to move until mobility decreases".
