Production is underway in Tijuana on the feature-length documentary Puños de Esperanza (Fists of Hope), which chronicles the lives and careers of pioneering women in Mexican boxing, led by local world champion Jackie Nava.

The film aims to highlight the resilience, passion, and growing influence of female athletes from Tijuana in a sport traditionally dominated by men. It will follow Nava and three other Mexican boxers, capturing their triumphs and challenges both inside and outside the ring.

Beyond individual profiles, the documentary explores broader themes of empowerment, social transformation, and the struggles faced by women in boxing.

“Everything takes place in the vibrant and contrasting context of Tijuana, a city that becomes another character in this story,” the producers said.

Directed by Gabriel Sebastián Reyes, whose credits include Fear the Walking Dead and Saw X, the documentary is produced in collaboration with iDigital Creative Studio and Jorge Najar.

“Beyond sport, this project addresses female empowerment, personal growth, and border identity, with a human, cultural, and visually innovative focus,” the production team added.
