Xolos dialing back on "cerveza" toss

It has been a tradition. Toss your cup of whatever is in it, into the air. That is what fans are accustomed to doing at the almost 20,000 seat Estadio Caliente when the Xolos scored a goal. If you left the game with dry clothes, it meant the Xolos were shutout.

You might leave dry even after some Xolos scoring this season.

The FMF, Mexico's soccer federation, recently outlined new regulations for making the in-stadium experience at its games more family friendly, one of which prohibits liquids being poured on players or fans.

Club Tijuana interpreted that as a ban on spontaneous beer showers. It issued a news release this week asking a change in goal celebrations. It said it wants celebrations to "be with respect and without exaggeration, particularly in the case of liquids that can spill on other fans, especially children and the elderly."

The new guidelines take effect for the Apertura season, which starts Friday against Puebla. Offenders will be ejected from the stadium and could have season-ticket (Xolo Pass) privileges revoked.
