MEXICO CITY In a dramatic game, the Tijuana Xolos tied 1-1 Club América, one of Mexicos most popular and richest teams.
Xolos player Javier Yacuzzi struck with lightning speed, sending a pass from Richard Ruíz into the net for the first goal, just 30 seconds into the game.
Tijuanas goalkeeper, Cirilo Saucedo, had busy afternoon, containing Américas attack. In fact, the Águilas did not score a goal until nearly the end of the game, at minute 86, when a Christian Benítez shot found the net.
Américas goalkeeper, Armando Navarrete, also had a busy game, rebuffing the Xolos in all but the first minute of the game.
Both teams were led by new coaches, Antonio Mohamed for the Xolos and Alfredo Tena for Club América.
At the end of the Week 10, each could say that they had not lost their first coaching challenge.
Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles are 1-5-4 and still in 17th place out of 18 teams in the Apertura tournament. Still, Sundays tie against one of Mexicos most famous and richest teams was sure to please Xolos fans, who have been desperate for good news.
The Xolos return home to Estadio Caliente next Sunday for a Week 11 match-up against Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.
