SAN DIEGO, CA.- Xolos manager Antonio Mohamed confirmed in post game interview on Saturday night that he will be using an alternative squad to face Millonarios on Wednesday night in the final group game of the Copa Libertadores. Mohamed mentioned that he now wants to focus on the domestic league and qualify the team to the Liga MX playoffs.
This now opens up the possibility for those reserve players that don't get that much playing time and some of the youth squad players who have been pushing for an opportunity. In today's practice scrimmage game this is the squad that took on the Under 20 team.
In goal veteran goalkeeper Adrian Zermeño. Zermeño would be living his first experience in the Copa Libertadores.
In the back line there could be some surprises like Noe Maya playing right back. While this is not his strongest position, it is not a position he is not familiar with; he played there while in San Luis. The central defense would be Alfredo Gonzalez-Tahuilan and Joshua Abrego. And finally at left back it would be US International Greg Garza.
Leandro Agusto and Jorge Hernandez would be set to take the defensive midfielder positions. Hernandez has been used as a right back in his last few appearances but is capable of playing in the middle.
Jose Madueña on the right, Bruno Piceno in the center, and Fidel Martinez on the left will make up a line of three creative midfielders in front of Agusto and Hernandez.
And finally up in front Raul Nava will be the lone striker playing right in front of Piceno, while Madueña and Martinez offer support from the wide positions.
This is the squad that manager Antonio Mohamed worked with in today's practice at the Estadio Caliente.
