La mayor revelación fue para Viola Davis que fue galardonada con el premio a mejor actriz de drama, siendo la primer afroamericana en obtenerlo. Viola afirma que muchas veces soñó con este momento pero al comenzar su carrera lo veía cada vez más lejos, sin encontrar el camino para poder llegar a él. Al dar su discurso de agradecimiento, hizo una invitación a escritores,directores y productores a creer en el potencial de las personas sin importar los rasgos étnicos.
Quien también se llevo una enorme y grata sorpresa fue Jon Hamm al ganar por su papel de Don Draper en Mad Men. "Esto debe ser un error" bromeó al recibir el premio tras 16 nominaciones sin haber haber obtenido éxito antes.
Otro momento importante fue el regreso de Tracy Morgan tras el fatal accidente que tuvo en 2014. Al presentar la última nominación, agradeció a los doctores que han sido cuidadosos con su recuperación y sonriente declaró que ya estaba más que listo para las fiestas.
