Here are the best places to visit in Baja’s capital

MEXICALI.- It turns out Mexicali isn’t just a milestone for getting to San Felipe, Baja’s capital also has lots to offer when it comes to tourism, which is why we would like to suggest some places you could visit while you stay in this great city.

UNIVERSITY MUSEUM

Part of the Autonomous University of Baja California, the museum opened its doors in 1977. Among its permanent exhibits you will find fossils, art pieces, utensils, photographs and graphic representations of different eras and moments in history. Don’t forget to look up their temporary exhibits and events, given that many of them are seasonal.

CITY PARK AND ZOO

A family friendly recreational center, the park and zoo have different activities you can do to spend the day with your family. Here, you will able to enjoy the Museum of Natural History, the Walk of Pre-Hispanic Cultures, a botanical garden, green areas and a lake. As part of the zoo you will find 25 different species of mammals, and one of the biggest aviaries North of the country, as well as a crocodile and snake house.

GUADALUPE CANYON

This canyon located along Sierra Cucapah, is filled with activities that will nurture you adventurous spirit. Hiking, trekking, flora and fauna watching, mountain biking, visiting archeological areas, exploring cave paintings, swimming in hot springs, are some of the things this oasis in the middle of the desert has to offer. It also has camping areas with basic services available. If you can try and visit during Autumn and/or Spring.

SOL DEL NIÑO MUSEUM

HARDY RIVER

Discovered in 1826 by Sir William Hale Hardy of the British Navy, this is the only navigable river in all of Baja, making it ideal for practicing water sports such as water skiing, waveboarding and kayaking. Here, you can also go hunting for ducks, gooses, pheasants, doves, quails and rabbits; and if you are more into fishing you will be able to find catfish, mojarras and tilapias.

Mexicali also has great placxes to eat for all types of palates. Among them you will find:

KOBU

A small and nice place, with a special touch that comes from the fusion of Latin and Oriental influences, conquering even the strictest of palates. Their specialties are ceviche, tostadas, Kobu Fish and Tomahawk Ribeye which you will be able to accompany with a craft beer or any other cocktail from the Mixology Bar.

AMBAR

A candid place that offers international food inside an environment that makes it ideal for any occasion. On their menu you will find fine cuts, lamb ribs, duck breasts, and coq au vin, to name a few. You can also choose from a tree, five or seven course menu.

MANDOLINO

One of Mexicali’s oldest places is home to a little part of Italy inside a land of cachanillas. Aside from the traditional pizzas and pastas, its menu has fine cuts of meat and seafood. There is an option for everyone.

EL RINCON DE PANCHITO

They say Mexicali’s traditional cuisine is Chinese Food and this place is ideal for trying a classic Cantonese menu, which has become something traditional of the city. The dishes are well served, making this the perfect place to share a meal with friends and family.

GOLDEN CHINA

You can’t visit Mexicali without trying their Chinese food, you just can’t. Among the places you will find here Golden China is one of tourist favorites.
