BRAZIL On Friday, Brazilian health authorities discovered that the Zika virus can be transmitted through saliva and urine, according to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, who found an active virus sample.
"We already knew that it was possible the virus could be found in urine and saliva. This is the first time that we found evidence of an active virus sample, it has the potential to be a source of infection, which opens up new paradigms to understand the multiple ways the Zika virus is transmitted", stated the head of the FIOCRUZ molecular biology research lab.
According to El Universal, Paulo Gadelha, urged pregnant women to avoid kissing people who aren't their partner, as well as sharing silverware, drinking-glasses and plates with others who have symptoms.
