Chef Javier Plascencia reveals the name of his next restaurant

The Restaurant in San Diego will be called "Bracero": Cocina Mexicana de Raiz

When it was announced this July that Chef Javier Plascencia would be opening a new restaurant in Little Italy–– an area in San Diego that is well known for culinary treasures––the expectations of foodies became self-evident, especially because not many details were revealed.

Could it be that he might endeavor into italian style recipes, or would he take Baja-Med cuisine to San Diego? These doubts have now cleared after the name of the new restaurant was announced: "Bracero: Cocina Mexicana de Raiz". The restaurant will serve traditional and modern Mexican style food, and will include stand-out recipes from the Grupo Plascencia's other restuarants, and will offer delicious meals to San Diegan residents without having to cross the border.

Bracero: Cocina Mexicana de Raiz will be a two story restaurant, both floors will be equipped with a bar, kitchen, and even exterior climate controlled seating areas. The first floor will be more casual, no reservations required. The second floor will be a bit more formal and a reservation will be required. Both bars will offer original mixology cocktails with traditional and craft liquors from Mexico, including tequila and mezcal.

The name of the new restaurant is inspired by the famous Bracero Program, which allowed an enormous amount of Mexican farm workers legally to migrate to the United States during the forties to seasonally work on farms, and is derived from the word "brazos" or "arms".

Bracero: Cocina Mexicana de Raiz will open its doors during the first trimester of 2015. Other restaurants in the Chef's repertoire include Mision 19 in Tijuana, Finca Altozano in the Valle de Guadalupe, El Erizo Baja Fish House & Market in Tijuana, and Romesco in Bonita, California.
