Is North Korea's internet under attack?

"Someone" is possibly causing massive blackouts in the country´s cybernetic infrastructure

NORTH KOREA.- Several media outlets have reported that the Internet in Kim Jong-Un's secluded country has been suffering massive blackouts, more than usual.

The "NorthKoreaTech.org" blog has reported that North Korea's communication infrastructure is already weak, and today, the country's IPs are impossible to get access to, so it's suspected that it is under a targeted attack.

Throughout the weekend, the United States and North Korea launched accusations at each other about who was responsible of the cyber attack against Sony. President Barack Obama added that his country will "take proportional measures" against North Korea due to its participation in the hackings.

Are these the so called promised measures? This is a shared suspicion by the majority of media outlet at the time being, however, nothing has been confirmed.

"Bloomberg" has a round-up of reactions to the blackout, with most experts saying that an attack from the U.S. would be "much worse" than the simple DOS (denial-of-service) attacks the country is experiencing. Besides, most say, it's not that hard to topple their internet infrastructure anyway.

The hermit kingdom isn't exactly up to date on internet infrastructure, or even has basic internet access most countries enjoy. Access is mostly reserved for government officials, military and a few citizens, like academia and perhaps some other lucky few. But still, the North Korean regime is very dependent on connectivity with the outside world in order to keep up with world affairs, pop culture and it is a way to use hackers in order to spread propaganda and, yes, attacks.
